Position Title: Upper Secondary Biology Teacher
Department: Secondary School
Reporting Line: Subject Area Leader / Head of Department
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in the subject to be taught
Valid teaching certification
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
At least two years of experience with IGCSE, A Level, or IBDP
Key Responsibilities:
Lesson Planning & Curriculum
Develop an annual academic plan or subject teaching handbook, including syllabus, teaching schedule, and assessment methods
Prepare written curriculum documents (e.g., lesson plans, teaching PPTs) aligned with IBDP, A Level, or IGCSE requirements
Store teaching resources properly on the school server and ManageBac (or other designated platforms)
Set clear learning goals and objectives
Use assessment results to guide lesson planning
Participate in vertical and horizontal curriculum planning within and across subject areas
Collaboratively write unit plans and update them on ManageBac
Submit written curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment data to the HOD and program coordinators
Classroom Instruction
Prepare classroom environment and teaching equipment in advance
Take attendance each period and monitor student safety and well-being
Arrange student seating to support effective teaching and learning
Manage classroom effectively, including the use of electronic devices
Deliver high-quality instruction primarily in English, with bilingual support when appropriate
Use relevant teaching methods to create active and engaging learning experiences
Assessment
Design meaningful formative and summative assessment tasks
Ensure measurable student progress and take responsibility for learning outcomes
Communicate with parents regarding student progress
Work with the pastoral team to set goals, track progress, and support student improvement
Analyze assessment data to inform teaching
Contribute to the school community by showcasing student learning and participating in exhibitions, field trips, competitions, judging, house events, etc.
Prepare and administer internal and external exams (mid-terms, finals, mocks, global exams)
Complete student reports and comments as required by school policies
Uphold academic honesty and pastoral expectations
Provide assessment data to subject leaders and program coordinators
Homework
Prepare and assign homework at least one week in advance
Each exam subject should have approximately 3 hours of homework per week
Mark homework within 5 working days and ensure students make complete corrections
Use homework formatively, including feedback and reflection, and support students in these processes
Tutoring
Participate in evening study sessions once per week (minimum 120 minutes)
Evening study may include homework support, additional instruction (not replacing curriculum time), or academic competition preparation, as approved
The evening study schedule is set each semester by the program coordinator
Professional Learning
Attend school-based workshops and external IB/CAIE workshops or conferences
Lead collaborative professional learning with colleagues
Participate in weekly Professional Collaboration Time (Mondays and Wednesdays)
Actively and reflectively engage in the performance evaluation process led by subject leaders and program coordinators
General Responsibilities
Fulfill all assigned duties
Lead one co-curricular activity (CCA) per week
Conduct one parent-teacher conference per semester
Carry out other tasks assigned by secondary school leadership
Align professional conduct with the school’s mission and values
Follow school policies and procedures
Serve as homeroom teacher, CAS advisor/supervisor, or EE/IPQ/EPQ supervisor as assigned
Comply with the staff handbook
Complete self-evaluation records on school software
Write recommendation letters for students as coordinated by the university guidance team
Compensation & Benefits Summary (2026 Start):
Contract Term: 3 years
Monthly Salary (pre-tax): Based on qualifications, licensure, and interview
Housing Allowance: 5,800 RMB/month
Relocation Allowance (one-time):
Domestic hires: 5,000 RMB
Overseas hires: 10,000 RMB
Contract Completion Bonus:
Regular teachers: approx. 2 months’ salary
Paid Holidays: Fully paid winter/summer breaks + approx. 10 days at Christmas
Work Visa: Provided for employee and dependents
Tuition for Dependents:
1–2 children: free
3rd child: negotiable for outstanding candidates
Annual Flight Allowance: 10,000 RMB/year
Medical Insurance:
Employee + spouse or one child: comprehensive coverage
Other dependents: basic coverage
